McDonald-Nandi Lab Awarded BioMADE Grant with Checkerspot

New Project: Simulating Manufacturing Scale Aerobic Fermentation in Pressurized Miniature Bioreactor

This project, led by Checkerspot in partnership with University of California, Davis will evaluate a pressurized scale-down model for fermentation development, to determine whether it can replace more costly intermediate scale fermentation systems. The system will be validated on multiple key performance indicators generated in both high- and low-cell density processes. Developing a novel capability to predict strain performance with high probability, in concordance with and validated by our other, more traditional platform technologies, is the ultimate goal of this work. This new predictive tool may help BioMADE members save significant time and investment capital for fermentation process scale-up.
